That Moment I Thought Daughter Was Lost

Last weekend we were watching a movie at home as a family. I needed to take a break as I often do (girls, you know what I'm saying). Upon returning, I see this scene:

Couch ends with foot rests are flipped up. Hubs and boy on floor peering under said couch. Flashlights in hand as the light flashes back and forth under the couch. Daughter 1 who was sitting on one of the couch ends is now nowhere to be seen. Daughter 2 calming sitting on another chair watching.

Enter me.

Me: What are you doing?
Hub: Looking for something.
Me (in my head): Duh!
Me (out loud): Did Daughter 1 fall in? Daughter 1! Daauuuughtttttterrrr 1!!!!!

Everyone explodes in laughter

Daughter 1, popping out from behind hubs: I'm here!
Me: Keep talking, we'll find you.
Daughter 1, standing up: I'm right here!
Me: What's lost?
Daughter 1: My ring
Me: How did you lose your ring?
Daughter 1: Welllll. (me thinking oh boy, this is going to be good) I took my ring off and then put it on a chunk of hair. I knotted the hair but it still fell out and then fell down the couch. (my no-longer-a-teen-daughter exceeded my expectation with that piece of information!)
Me: And putting your ring in your hair and knotting it seemed like a good idea?
Daughter 1 ignores me.

I, foolishly, decided to participate in this treasure hunt. I go behind the couch since things seem to go behind the couch when they fall into the couch. I found everything back there BUT the ring. At the risk of embarrassing myself, I found batteries, a pen, a flash light.... I don't even want to know how those got back there. No money. (that is the way my life works, people...no money)

Me: Let's tip the couch back.
Hub: Not sure what good that will do.
Me: Humor me.

Daughter 1 & 2 and I tip back the couch.

Son: Found it! I found a dime!
Me: Did you find the ring?
Son: No.
Me: Couch is heavy.
Son: Found the ring!

Hub gives ring to Daughter 1.

Hub and me at the same time: Don't put a ring in hair again!

We put couch down and resume our positions to finish watching movie.
Normal day. Bonding over a movie and a search and seizure. Normal. Perfectly normal.
